“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.”
Jim Bishop, American Journalist and Author

Autumn is my favorite time of year to grab a blanket and a book (or tablet nowadays), and read about new and trending interior design practices. The outdoor ambiance of falling red leaves and brisk air often inspires my artistic expressions. Nature’s colors are the perfect starting place for any design.

Livable Floors Make Your Life Easy

Floors today need to be durable. They need to be able to handle the hustle and bustle of life--one that can handle pets, children, parties and time. Why agonize about the state of your floors every time your toddler spills her juice--in that moment, you have more important things to worry about. The composition of your floors is just as important as the finished look.

So what materials should you choose? Great Question!

The short answer: engineered hardwood and ceramic or porcelain planks.

The longer, better answer: Products that are durable and sustainable. The 2019 Houzz Kitchen Trends Survey revealed that, “only 24% of renovators are opting for natural hardwood.” An alternative to hardwood is engineered wood board. This product is easier for installation, a better long-term fit, stable, and of course- durable and sustainable. Increasingly, consumers care a great deal about the health and environmental impact of products used in their home. They want to know if the wood used to make the products used in their home was sourced from sustainable forests.

Floors that require waterproof qualities are high in demand. Luxury vinyl tile is favorable because it is affordable, boasts waterproof features, and has a long life span. Mid- to higher-price point remodels often use wood-look or stone-look ceramic porcelain tiles.

Have Fun with your Backsplash!

Backsplashes amplify the personality of a space and the people living there. Saturated colors, geometric shapes, and blended materials are all #trending. The most popular material, according to the 2019 Statista Report, is ceramic and porcelain tile. This material comes in a variety of sizes and colors, making your backsplash easily customizable to your tastes.

Pink, as well as coral and persimmon, are the most popular colors at the moment, however darker colors, such as deep blues and emerald greens, are rising in popularity. Mosaic backsplashes with blends of concrete, metal, ceramic, and glass are trending as well. Many homeowners are choosing arabesque shaped tiles for a more exotic look.

Overall, a mix of various colors and complex shapes allow you to have very customizable backsplashes that resemble individual works of art!
